Main Street Thrift

This morning, I learned that citizens have been coming to the Thrift Shop, gathering things they need or wanted and walked out the door without leaving a donation.

When we first started, I posted a message about donations NOT being needed for clothing and shoes for the “homeless” and those in need that we serve through the Center, this did not mean that everyone can shop and not have to make a donation.

We don’t do trades for items, such as bringing something to donate and leaving with something else.

The Center operates on funds that are donated and donations for items that are wanted or needed.

We currently serve an average of 6-8 meals each weekday. This equals (on average) about $240.00 per month.

Juice and chips average around $120.00 per month.

Water bill averages about $160.00 per month.

Electric bill averages about $435.00 per month.

I personally pay the rent which is $850.00 per month.

Electric for the office side of the building that averages about $220.00 per month both out of my retirement each month.

Even though we would love to give freely to all who want and need but in business (even a nonprofit) it is not a sound way to operate a business.

We rely on your “sound judgment” when donating for items instead of placing price tags on the merchandise we offer. The donations help to keep our different programs operating within the center as well as operations at the center.

Remember as “We Are Our Brothers Keeper” and a nonprofit we are accountable to all the citizens of Bishop so you can request documentation for the functions of our facility as you continue to donate to our cause to help each other.

We are very transparent to all citizens but especially to our donors here and outside of our city.

We still need your help in getting through another year (2024) as you have helped us successfully move through last year (2023) as we continue with our mission of helping each other.

Please remember since we are a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization that all your donations are tax-deductible whether money or items that were donated and if you need documentation for those donations please don’t hesitate to ask because we are in tax season.

For those who are using check stubs or cash expenditures to calculate their monetary donations our Tax-ID number is 87-2660584.

I do hope this information helps all of us to move forward and continue helping one another in the mission at hand because…”WE ARE OUR BROTHERS KEEPER”

Thank you all for joining our mission to serve in 2023.

May this day be a blessing to each of you and the weekend to come.
